Set Files Community Guidelines
Welcome to the Set Files community! These guidelines help everyone have a positive, productive experience.
Our Mission
We're building a practical, human-readable file format that makes configuration files better for everyone. We believe in:
- Simplicity - Keep things clear and approachable
- Collaboration - We're better together
- Respect - Everyone's contribution matters
- Learning - Questions are welcome, mistakes are learning opportunities
Expected Behavior
Be Respectful
- Treat everyone with kindness and professionalism
- Value different perspectives and experiences
- Assume good intentions
- Use welcoming, inclusive language
Be Constructive
- Provide helpful feedback, not just criticism
- Explain your reasoning
- Suggest alternatives when pointing out problems
- Focus on ideas, not people
Be Collaborative
- Share knowledge freely
- Help others learn
- Give credit where it's due
- Work together to solve problems
Be Patient
- Everyone has different backgrounds and experience levels
- Not everyone speaks English as their first language
- Technical discussions take time
- Remember we're all learning
When Participating
In Comments
- Stay on topic
- Ask questions if something isn't clear
- Share your real-world experiences
- Avoid repeating what's already been said
In Discussions
- Search before asking - your question may be answered
- Provide context and examples
- Be open to different solutions
- Follow up when you solve your problem
On GitHub
Not Acceptable
- Harassment, insults, or personal attacks
- Discriminatory language or behavior
- Spam or self-promotion unrelated to Set files
- Sharing others' private information
- Trolling or deliberately inflammatory comments
Reporting Issues
If you experience or witness unacceptable behavior:
- For technical issues: GitHub Issues
- For community concerns: Email kirk@setfiles.org
- Urgent matters: Contact kirk@setfiles.org directly
All reports will be handled with discretion and respect for privacy.
Consequences
Depending on the situation, we may:
- Issue a warning
- Temporarily restrict participation
- Permanently ban from the community
We prefer education over enforcement, but we will act to keep the community welcoming and safe.
